Research strategy

RIGT’s research programme is intended to support the objectives of the Research Strategy, which sets out our research priorities and objectives for the period 2006/07 to 2011/12. The development of a strong, reliable base of evidence will help RIGT achieve its core aims of prevention of and treatment for problem gambling.

Our aim

RIGT believes that the prevention of problem gambling and the treatment of those affected by it should be informed by sound research and reliable evidence. We are committed to building an effective evidence base to inform our work, and to making that evidence available to all those working in this area.

Over the next five years we intend to develop an extensive evidence base on problem gambling in Britain, set within an international context. We will commission and collect evidence on a range of treatment and treatment access options, on prevention, and on host responsibility. In addition, we aim to have significantly developed the capacity for research on problem gambling in Britain.

Research Panel

An independent Research Panel has overall responsibility for the research strategy and programmes. It is chaired by Dr David Guy and consists of experts in problem gambling research and leading research staff from regulatory bodies. It conducts its work independently of the gambling industry.

The Research Panel has eight members:
