RIGT funding seminar, 28 February 2007

RIGT celebrated its fifth birthday at the end of February 2007, with a lunch and seminar at Savoy Place in London. The event was well attended and gave the Trust, and its trustees, an opportunity to present the highlights from the last five years and to thank the supporters who have made it all possible.

Not only did the event go well but RIGT also received the best birthday present it could hope for – the news that it had reached its target of £3million in industry donations to fund initiatives to prevent and treat problem gambling in the Britain.

RIGT Chairman John Greenway MP said "The gambling industry has always prided itself on taking social responsibility very seriously. With the funding we have now been pledged our plans, for vital education work for young people in schools, online and telephone helplines, and face-to-face counselling across Britain, can now be realised."

"I am particularly pleased that we have been able to raise the £3m annual target originally recommended in the Budd Report for the first time. This is a major landmark for both the Trust and the industry as a whole, and we are very grateful to Ladbrokes, William Hill, Gala Coral, Betfair and PartyGaming, for their additional contributions to enable us to reach the £3m."

The staff and board of trustees are looking forward to the next five years with renewed vigour and the knowledge that the gambling industry is firmly behind them.
