Hospice lotteries pledge their support for responsible gambling

19 June 2007

The Hospice Lotteries Association (HLA), which represents 85 hospice lotteries across Britain, has pledged its support for the work of the Responsibility in Gambling Trust and has made its first donation, of £400 – 10 per cent of the Association’s gross income.

HLA Chair Garth Caswell said: “Small charity lotteries are a relatively low-risk gambling activity. Nonetheless, we recognise the very real harm that problem gambling can do to individuals and to their families and friends.  RIGT’s work in tackling and treating problem gambling is absolutely invaluable, and we are proud to be supporting the Trust in this way.”

RIGT Chief Executive Malcolm Bruce said: “By donating such a significant proportion of its income to helping combat problem gambling, the HLA has set an example to any organisation involved in the gambling industry. We are extremely grateful and would like to thank the Association and all of its members for their generous support.”
